“Karakurt” in the strike zone: Ukrainian Armed Forces attack Russian “Kalibr” carrier

On the night of 7 May 2026, units of the Ukrainian Defence Forces carried out strikes on a number of key military targets belonging to the Russian occupiers.
One of the targets was the Project 22800 “Karakurt” multi-purpose small missile ship. It was struck in the vicinity of its base in Kaspiysk, in the Republic of Dagestan, Russian Federation.
According to the General Staff, the “Karakurt” is capable of launching “Kalibr” cruise missiles. The extent of the damage to the vessel is currently being assessed.
What is known about the “Karakurt”
The “Karakurt” is a Russian Project 22800 small missile ship. Such ships are designed for operations in the near-sea zone and are classified as guided missile carriers.
According to publicly available technical data from a Russian arms exporter, a Project 22800 vessel has a full load displacement of 870 tonnes, a length of 67 metres, a beam of 11 metres, a maximum speed of 30 knots and a range of 2,500 nautical miles.
The main significance of this class of ships for the Russian Federation is their ability to launch ‘Kalibr’ missiles, which Russia is using to strike Ukraine.
Where else did the Defence Forces strike?
In addition to the “Karakurt”, the Defence Forces struck a Russian military command post in the Sosnivka area of Luhansk Oblast.
They also struck an enemy UAV command post in the Yasne area of Donetsk Oblast.
Separately, the General Staff reported the destruction of Russian military logistics facilities.
In the Kalmykivka area, the Defence Forces struck an ammunition depot, and near Smolyanino in the Luhansk region – a fuel and lubricants depot.
Strikes were also carried out on areas where enemy personnel were concentrated in the Dersove area of Donetsk Oblast and the Smily area of Zaporizhzhia Oblast.
Earlier, on the night of 30 April, the Ukrainian Navy struck two Russian boats based in the Kerch Strait area.
