The Picasso painting, which "disappeared" in Spain on the way to the exhibition, has been found
It seems she wasn't even loaded into the truck, as reported by ThePublic.info citing El Pais.
The National Police found and identified Pablo Picasso's painting "Still Life with Guitar" in Madrid. It was believed to have disappeared when it was to be transported from the capital to Granada for an exhibition.
According to the statement, the painting never made it into the transport truck. In fact, "it didn't even leave the building from which it was supposed to be loaded for display in Granada," reports the news agency Efe, and sources close to the investigation confirmed to El Pais.
According to these sources, the transport company was supposed to pick it up from the building on Pío XII Avenue along with other works, but forgot it at the entrance door. A woman living in the building kept it at home, believing it was a delivery parcel. A few days later, her husband told her about the disappearance of the artwork, and they decided to report it to the police.
The police opened it and confirmed that the box left in the corner contained the missing painting. Photos show that the seal in which it was wrapped is still intact.
The mystery lies in how such a mistake could have happened during the transportation of artworks, which is usually carried out following strict security and caution protocols. Details of these protocols are generally not disclosed for security reasons.
When the van arrived, its contents were unloaded and checked. Although some carefully packed works were not properly numbered, complicating a thorough inspection, the delivery was still accepted.
Later, the works, which had been under video surveillance for several days, were unpacked and placed in the exhibition hall. It was then that the exhibition curator and the head of the exhibition department of the foundation discovered that one piece was missing — a small Pablo Picasso painting — and contacted the police.
