On 8 April, North Korea fired several ballistic missiles towards the Sea of Japan (East Sea). They flew approximately 240 kilometres before falling into the sea.

This is reported by the South Korean news agency Yonhap.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff stated this morning that it had detected several short-range ballistic missiles launched from the Wonsan area — they flew approximately 240 kilometres and fell into the sea.

Later, the DPRK launched another unidentified ballistic missile from the same area, which flew over 700 kilometres.

In 2026, North Korea has launched missiles five times: twice in January and once in March (on that occasion, the military launched approximately 10 ballistic missiles). In addition, the DPRK likely launched a ballistic missile on 7 April as well — this incident is being investigated by South Korean and US authorities.
