Leonardo DiCaprio becomes a viral meme after the Golden Globes
This year's Golden Globe Awards ceremony attracted attention not only for the list of winners, but also for an unexpected viral moment involving 51-year-old Leonardo DiCaprio. Kyle Buchanan, a reporter for The New York Times, accidentally filmed the actor during a commercial break, when he was chatting with people at his table.
The short video fragment instantly went viral on social media, as viewers recognised DiCaprio's gestures and facial expressions as references to his iconic roles. At first, the actor pointed his finger sharply at the interlocutor with a surprised expression on his face - the scene almost verbatim repeated the famous meme from the film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, where the character Rick Dalton recognises himself on the TV screen. A moment later, DiCaprio, laughing and holding a glass, reproduced the ironic facial expression associated with Calvin Candy from Django Unchained, another long-running internet meme.
Observers noticed that the actor behaved much more relaxed than usual that evening. Instead of a restrained public image, he actively gestured, laughed out loud and even jokingly reacted to the commercials, including those related to K-pop culture, which were broadcast in the hall.
This contrast with DiCaprio's traditional restraint was admired by his fans and became the subject of numerous discussions on social media. The actor himself did not publicly comment on the video, but eyewitnesses suggest that he was chatting to his One Battle at a Time co-stars, with whom he was at the same table during the ceremony.
