Lukashenko stated that Belarus had no intention of going to war and expressed his willingness to meet with Zelensky
Belarus’s self-proclaimed president, Alexander Lukashenko, has stated that Belarus has no intention of becoming involved in the war in Ukraine.
He told journalists this whilst commenting on statements made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy regarding Belarus’s possible involvement in the war.
“As for his statements that Belarus will be drawn into the war, I have just said: it will be drawn in only in one case, if an act of aggression is committed against our territory. And then we will defend our Motherland together from Brest to Vladivostok, where the two states are located,” Lukashenko said.
He also stressed that Belarus sees no need to take part in a war against Ukraine.
“So if we are drawn into a war, including if it is against Ukraine, it will only be in one scenario: if they commit an act of aggression against us. We have no intention of getting drawn into a war in Ukraine. There is absolutely no need for that. Neither a civil nor a military one,” said Lukashenko.
In addition, he expressed his readiness to meet with Volodymyr Zelenskyy anywhere in Ukraine or Belarus to discuss issues relating to bilateral relations.
