Massive Russian attack on Kyiv and the surrounding region: one person has been killed, and the number of casualties has risen to 31

On the night of 14 May, Russia launched a combined attack on Kyiv and the Kyiv region using missiles and drones. One person was killed in the capital and dozens were injured.

Explosions were heard in Kyiv on the night of 14 May during an attack by Russian drones and missiles.

Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, warned of the threat of a combined attack on the capital.

“There are many enemy UAVs heading towards Kyiv. Missile launches are also possible,” he wrote on Telegram.

Darnitskyi district

In the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv, a high-rise residential building was hit by a strike. Parts of the building collapsed.

According to the State Emergency Service, rescuers have evacuated and rescued 27 people. Emergency rescue operations and the search for people under the rubble are ongoing. As of 8.30 am, at least 31 people are known to have been injured, including one child. Unfortunately, there are reports of one fatality.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that 18 flats in the nine-storey prefabricated block have been destroyed.

Also in the area, at a different address, debris fell onto the grounds of a petrol station.

Obolon District

In the Obolon district, debris fell onto an open area, as well as onto a three-storey car park and business centre.

At another address, debris damaged a flat on the 12th floor of a residential building.

A hit on a 25-storey unfinished building was also recorded. There are casualties.

Dniprovskyi District

In the Dniprovskyi district, the attack caused a fire on the roof of a five-storey residential building.

A drone strike on a five-storey building and damage to a private residential building were also reported.

At another address, several garages and a parked car caught fire.

One casualty has been reported.

Solomyanskyi, Holosiivskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts

In the Solomyanskyi district, a parked car caught fire. In the Holosiivskyi district, debris was found on the carriageway. In the Sviatoshynskyi district, debris fell onto an open area.

According to Vitali Klitschko, 19 injured residents of the capital sought medical assistance, eight of whom are currently in the capital’s hospitals. There are water supply disruptions on the left bank of the capital.

Consequences of the attack on the Kyiv region

The Kyiv region also came under a massive drone and missile attack during the night.

Mykola Kalashnyk, head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, reported that the effects of the attack were recorded in six districts of the region.

Boryspil district

Five people were injured in the Boryspil district.

A man and a woman with shrapnel wounds were admitted to a local hospital. Three other women received medical treatment at the scene.

According to the State Emergency Service, one child is among the injured.

In the district, a multi-storey building, six cars, a business premises, a private house and outbuildings were damaged.

Rescue workers evacuated 30 residents from the high-rise building.

Fastiv district

In the Fastiv district, a woman born in 1984 was injured.

The State Emergency Service reports two casualties in the district.

A multi-storey residential building has also been damaged.

Other districts

In the Bucha district, a fire broke out in a warehouse and two cars. In the Obukhiv district, three private houses have been damaged.

In the Brovary district, three private houses, a car and a business premises have been damaged. In the Bila Tserkva district, a private residential building has been damaged.

Clean-up operations are ongoing

In several districts of Kyiv and the Kyiv region, efforts to deal with the aftermath of the shelling and extinguish fires are ongoing.

Rescue workers, State Emergency Service psychologists and other emergency services are working on the ground.
