Massive attack on Kyiv on the night of 24 May: one person killed

At least four people were killed as a result of a massive Russian attack on Kyiv and the Kyiv region during the night of 24 May. In the capital, the death toll has risen to two, with a further 56 people injured. In the Kyiv region, two people are also reported to have been killed and nine injured.

This was announced by the Mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko.

Residential buildings, schools and civilian infrastructure have been damaged

As of 05:30, 13 people are known to have been injured. Seven people were hospitalised, whilst a further six received medical attention at the scene. In the Darnytskyi district, a student hall of residence, a service station, non-residential premises and cars were damaged. In the Obolon district, drones were reported to have struck residential buildings, causing fires in a high-rise block and the private sector. In the Shevchenkivskyi district, falling rocket debris damaged residential buildings, an office centre and cars, and fires broke out on the grounds of two schools and a gas pipe between buildings.

The aftermath of the attack is being documented across the city

In the Dniprovskyi district, debris fell onto the roof of a residential building, and storage facilities and a garage cooperative were also damaged. In the Sviatoshynskyi district, rocket debris fell on a private house. Damage has also been reported in the Podilskyi, Holosiivskyi and Desnianskyi districts. In particular, drone debris struck a supermarket and a shopping centre. In the Solomyanskyi district, a drone struck a multi-storey residential building, causing a fire and structural damage. In the Pecherskyi district, a residential building also caught fire following a drone strike. Rescue workers, medics and utility services are on the ground dealing with the aftermath of the night-time attack.

Two people were killed in the Kyiv region

According to Mykola Kalashnyk, head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, the deceased were men from the Bucha and Obukhiv districts. Nine people were also injured, including a child under one year of age. The highest number of casualties was recorded in the Fastiv district. As a result of the attack, residential buildings, businesses, educational establishments and medical facilities in the Bucha, Obukhiv, Fastiv, Vyshhorod, Brovary, Bila Tserkva and Boryspil districts were damaged.
