Igor Kolyhaev, the mayor of Kherson, has been included on the 1,000-for-1,000 exchange list
This was reported by the Kherson-based media outlet “Most”, citing Viktor Gordienko, head of the Association of Farmers and Private Landowners of the Kherson Region.
Igor Kolykhaev, the mayor of Kherson, has been included on the lists for a prisoner exchange on a 1,000-for-1,000 basis.
Kolyhaiev has been held captive in Russia since 2022.
According to Viktor Gordienko, head of the Association of Farmers and Private Landowners of Kherson Region, the inclusion of the mayor of Kherson on the lists became known following his conversation with Dmytro Lubinets, the Verkhovna Rada’s Commissioner for Human Rights.
“Official information regarding Igor Kolyhaiev is expected from Kyiv in the near future,” noted Gordienko.
What is known about the 1,000-for-1,000 exchange
On 8 May, US President Donald Trump announced a three-day ceasefire in the war between Ukraine and Russia.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed Trump’s statement regarding the ceasefire on 9, 10 and 11 May and announced a prisoner-of-war exchange on a 1,000-for-1,000 basis.
On the evening of 12 May, Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets stated that the Ukrainian negotiating team had long since submitted the lists for the exchange mentioned by US President Donald Trump.
According to Lubinets, the Russian side is dragging its feet and blaming Ukraine for this.
What is known about Kolykhaev’s captivity
Ihor Kolykhaiev disappeared in June 2022.
At that time, Russian occupiers abducted the mayor of Kherson following a search of his workplace.
He has been held captive in Russia ever since.
