On the morning of 24 July, the Russian city of Kirov came under rocket attack. According to preliminary reports, the strike hit ‘Avitek’, a company belonging to the Russian military-industrial complex. Following this, local residents began accusing the authorities of failing to issue a warning of the danger, providing inadequate protection for workers and possibly concealing the true number of fatalities.

This has been reported by "Bukvy".

What is known about the attack

Local authorities did not report any threat or missile attack on their official Telegram channels. At the same time, Russian Telegram channels and OSINT communities reported that the city had been hit by missiles at around 7 am.

According to preliminary information, the strike hit the ‘Avitek’ factory — a company within the Russian military-industrial complex that manufactures aircraft components, anti-aircraft guided missiles and pilot rescue equipment, and is involved in the production of the “Tor” anti-aircraft missile systems.

The governor of the Kirov Region, Alexander Sokolov, stated that five employees of the factory were killed in the attack, whilst a further 32 people were injured.

Locals criticise the authorities following the strike

In local Telegram groups, residents of Kirov claim that no air-raid warning was issued at the plant prior to the strike, no evacuation of staff took place, and no shelters were prepared.

In the comments, users write that a timely warning could have helped prevent some of the casualties. They also raise questions about the lack of a warning system, shelters near the defence plant and official guidance on what to do during attacks.

Some commenters have cast doubt on the official death toll and suggest that the losses may be higher. These claims have not yet been confirmed by independent sources.

People are laying flowers near the factory

According to reports from Russian Telegram channels, a makeshift memorial has sprung up near the entrance to the Avitek factory. Local residents are bringing flowers to honour the memory of those who died.
