The Ministry of Culture of Ukraine and Mastercard have agreed to cooperate in the field of digitisation of cultural services, development of the creative economy, and strengthening cybersecurity.

The Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine and global technology company Mastercard have signed a memorandum of understanding on the digitisation of services in the cultural sector. This was reported by the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine.

The document was signed during a meeting attended by Eilish Campbell, Mastercard's Executive Vice President for Public Sector Engagement.

The memorandum provides for cooperation in expanding access to culture, supporting the creative economy, and strengthening digital security.

Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy and Minister of Culture of Ukraine Tetiana Berezhna noted that the partnership between the state and business will help create a new model for the development of the cultural sphere.

"Our task is to make visiting museums, theatres and cultural events more convenient, safer and more accessible for people," Berezhna emphasised.

She also thanked Mastercard for supporting Ukraine since the start of the full-scale war and for contributing to strengthening the country's financial and digital resilience.

The main areas of cooperation include:

  • modernisation of payment and ticketing systems in museums, theatres and cultural heritage sites, including the expansion of cashless payments;

  • support for small and medium-sized businesses in the field of folk arts and crafts and creative industries through access to the digital economy;

  • cybersecurity and digital resilience initiatives for the cultural sector.

Mastercard Executive Vice President Aishwarya Campbell emphasised that technology can significantly improve people's access to cultural events and create new opportunities for the development of the creative industry.

According to her, the cooperation with the Ministry of Culture is a continuation of Mastercard's partnership with the Ukrainian government aimed at strengthening the country's digitalisation and sustainability.

The Ministry of Culture noted that the initiative should help accelerate the implementation of Ukraine's digital strategy, using Mastercard's experience in payment technologies, digital infrastructure and cybersecurity.
