Two suspects have been arrested in the Chernihiv region in connection with a robbery attack on a Ukrainian Armed Forces veteran
Police in the Chernihiv region have arrested two men suspected of involvement in a robbery targeting a veteran of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The suspects are residents of the Menska community, aged 19 and 47.
The police received a report of the attack on 24 March. A 43-year-old resident of the village of Stolne stated that two unknown men wearing balaclavas had broken into his home.
According to the victim, the attackers tied his hands with duct tape, beat him and, threatening him with a weapon, forced him to reveal the password to his mobile phone. They then took the phone and left the scene.
The criminals subsequently gained access to the victim’s bank account and withdrew 270,000 hryvnias.
Law enforcement officers tracked down the suspects and detained them. Balaclavas, an AK-74 assault rifle, two pistols, a live grenade, ammunition, the victim’s mobile phone and other material evidence were seized from the detainees. All seized items were sent for forensic examination.
The suspects were detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and placed in a temporary detention centre.
Investigators are conducting a criminal investigation under Part 4 of Article 187 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for liability for robbery committed under martial law.
The suspects face up to 15 years’ imprisonment with confiscation of property.
