Law enforcement officers have uncovered a network involved in the illegal smuggling of men of conscription age abroad. The organiser was arrested whilst handing over part of the proceeds.

Border guards, together with the National Police and the State Border Guard Service’s special unit ‘DOZOR’, have detained a 40-year-old resident of Lviv who is suspected of organising the illegal departure of conscription-age citizens to Slovakia.

The man was detained whilst handing over an advance payment of US$3,000. According to the investigation, the total fee for the crossing was US$15,000, to be paid after successfully crossing the border.

Four accomplices were involved in the scheme, transporting clients through Ukrainian territory to the border regions of Zakarpattia.

The investigation established that the scheme operated on a regular basis. Earlier this year, law enforcement officers detained two groups of individuals acting on the organiser’s instructions.

The main suspect has been notified of the charges against him. Investigative proceedings are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the case.
