Volyn region exposes TCR official who took servicemen off wanted list for bribes
Law enforcement officers detained the acting head of one of the district territorial recruitment centres in Volyn region, who is suspected of systematically taking bribes. According to the investigation, the official removed persons liable for military service from the wanted list in exchange for a reward, actually interfering with the relevant registers.
According to the State Bureau of Investigation, the defendant offered his clients a so-called "clean history", which allowed them to apply for a deferment from mobilisation without any obstacles. In one of the documented episodes, the officer promised to remove a man from the wanted list for 3,000 USD.
The bribe was planned to be received in two stages. During the transfer of the first instalment, the official received USD 1.5 thousand. When receiving the second instalment, he was detained by law enforcement officers on the spot.
The man was served a notice of suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - obtaining an unlawful benefit by an official. The sanction of the article provides for up to 10 years in prison. Searches and investigative actions are ongoing, and the possible involvement of other employees of the TCC in this scheme is being checked. A motion has been filed with the court to remove the suspect from office and impose a measure of restraint on him.
