“It hasn’t been done, so get out,” said the MP, adding that senior officials at the ESBU and the SBI should be held personally accountable for their failure
The MP made these remarks during an interview with the publication Apostrophe.
In his view, the problem of low efficiency in law enforcement or state bodies can only be solved through personal accountability.
“An official’s personal accountability, at the very least, for their position. Regardless of whether you are so incompetent that you cannot ensure this function is carried out and the person carrying it out deceives you, or whether you are profiting from it, let the investigation sort that out. But you must bear responsibility through your own position for the mistakes made by your agency. If it’s not done, get out. Someone new will come in and be held accountable,” notes Danylo Getmantsev, adding that the same approach is needed for both the Economic Security Bureau (ESB) and the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI).
At the same time, he believes that the Economic Security Bureau is fundamentally no different from the State Bureau of Investigation and should perform much better. After all, there are currently no systematic results or effectiveness.
“There are some isolated steps, some presentations, some announcements, some media coverage. In October, the Committee approached the main body in the field of economic security with evidence that the huge regional Merkopt chain of 400 shops had been broken up into 1,500 sole traders. It is already April, meaning half a year has passed, and not only has no one been arrested, not only have no charges been brought, but they continue to issue these receipts,” explained the head of the tax committee.
During the interview, Danylo Getmantsev also stated that any state error, any crime, any oversight has a name attached to it. Therefore, if a person has failed in their duties, they must go, regardless of their connections.
As previously reported by ThePublic, Danylo Getmantsev, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy, stated that the head of the ESBU, Oleksandr Tsyvinskyi, should be not only politically independent but also professional and results-oriented. After all, the ESBU’s inefficiency is a consequence of the agency’s helplessness.
