NYT: CIA identified meeting place of Iranian leadership before air strikes
The US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) played a key role in locating the meeting place of senior Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, ahead of US and Israeli air strikes on Tehran. This was reported by The New York Times, citing informed sources.
According to the publication's interlocutors, on the eve of the operation, American intelligence focused on determining Khamenei's exact whereabouts. Sources claim that for several months, the CIA tracked the supreme leader's schedule and travel routes.
Subsequently, intelligence established that on the morning of 28 February, a meeting of the Iranian leadership was to take place in one of the government complexes in central Tehran, at which Khamenei was expected to be present.
According to sources, this information was the basis for adjusting the timing of the attack. The United States and Israel relied in part on updated intelligence, which, according to the publication, made it possible to strike Iran's top leadership, including Ayatollah Khamenei.
