Sanctioned tanker 'breaks through' US blockade in the Strait of Hormuz – media reports
The Elpis
Despite the ban on shipping imposed by Iran under the Trump administration, on 13 April the monitoring platform Kpler recorded an oil tanker passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

This is according to CNN.

The Elpis, registered in the Comoros, is only partially loaded. Last year, the United States imposed sanctions on it for ‘participating in the purchase, sale and transport of Iranian oil’ as part of Iran’s so-called ‘shadow fleet’.

Meanwhile, the tanker Ostria, flying the Botswana flag, turned back whilst attempting to pass through the strait. According to Kpler data, 41 minutes after the deadline set by Trump, the vessel changed its destination from Oman to the UAE and set a course back.

Another tanker, the Rich Starry, transmitted a signal a few minutes after the blockade began indicating it was ‘drifting’ near Qeshm Island, apparently having halted its passage through the strait.
