On July 5, a car exploded in the Kyivskyi district of Odesa, injuring a man who was inside, reported the local police department.

"A report of an Opel car explosion on Varnianska Street was received at the emergency line 102 this morning. According to preliminary information, a man inside the vehicle was injured. He is receiving medical assistance," - informed the police.

Law enforcement officers detained a Russian intelligence agent who committed a terrorist act, according to a statement by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).

According to the agency, the Russian agent turned out to be a 22-year-old resident of Zaporizhzhia who had been previously convicted and was recruited through Telegram channels.

"As established by the investigation, under the instructions of the Russian special service, the agent planted a pre-prepared homemade explosive device (HED) under the vehicle designated by the curator. To ensure live video broadcast of the explosion, the defendant installed a remotely accessible phone opposite the planned location of the terrorist act," - the SBU reported.

It is known that as a result of the explosion, a civilian man was injured – he sustained bodily injuries, and the vehicle under which the HED was placed was completely destroyed.

As noted by the special service, after the explosion, the agent tried to leave Odesa region, hoping to "lay low."

"SBU and National Police officers quickly tracked down and detained him. SBU investigators informed the suspect of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (terrorist act)," - clarified the SBU.

The Russian agent faces up to 12 years of imprisonment.
