Working pensioners have received their payments: who has received the top-up
This was announced by Iryna Bachurina, Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of the Pension Fund of Ukraine in the Volyn region. The
automatic recalculation of pensions for working pensioners took effect on 1 April. This applies to citizens who continued to work after their pension was granted and have since accrued additional insurance periods.
There are currently around 2.8 million pensioners working in Ukraine. This is almost a quarter of the total number of pensioners in the country.
On average, working pensioners receive around 7,900 hryvnias per month. This is more than the average payment received by non-working pensioners.
According to Iryna Bachurina, the recalculation applies to those who, as of 1 March 2026, had at least 24 months of insurance record after retirement.
“This applies to Ukrainians who continue to work after their pensions have been granted and, as of 1 March 2026, have accumulated 24 months of insurance record, or who have worked for less than 24 months but for whom two years have passed since their pension was granted or previously recalculated,” she noted.
The amount of the increase is determined on an individual basis. It depends on the length of the insurance record and the level of earnings.
According to the Pension Fund, for over 19,000 pensioners, the supplement was calculated based on length of service alone. On average, it amounts to around 250 hryvnias.
For more than 6,000 people, both length of service and earnings were taken into account during the recalculation. In such cases, the average supplement amounted to approximately 456 hryvnias.
“Working pensioners in Volyn received their updated pension amounts in April,” added Bachurina.
It is noted that these figures are roughly the same across Ukraine. Unlike previous years, when increased payments were delayed, the recalculated pensions are now being paid immediately – starting from April. It was
also reported that in April, some pensioners may receive a 1,500 hryvnia supplement. It was clarified separately who exactly would receive it and whether working pensioners would receive this money.
As reported by ThePublic, the subsistence minimum for able-bodied adults in 2026 is 3,328 hryvnias. For those unable to work, which includes pensioners and people with disabilities, the figure has been set at 2,595 hryvnias. The minimum subsistence level in Ukraine for a child depends on age: for children aged 0 to 6, the figure is 2,817 hryvnias, and for those aged 6 to 18, it rises to 3,512 hryvnias.
