The presidents of Poland and the US discussed the presence of American troops in Poland
The conversation took place late on Sunday evening, on Poland’s Constitution Day. This was reported by the Office of the President of the Republic of Poland on X, according to Polskie Radio.
During the conversation, Karol Nawrocki thanked Donald Trump for his involvement and assistance in securing the release of the Polish-Belarusian journalist Andrzej Poczobut from a Belarusian prison.
The presidents also discussed the current security situation. Particular attention was paid to the issue of the presence of American troops in Europe.
Both leaders reaffirmed the importance and strength of the Polish-American alliance.
The conversation took place following the Pentagon’s announcement of its intention to withdraw around 5,000 US troops from Germany within six to twelve months.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that Warsaw had received no indication that these troops might be redeployed to NATO’s eastern flank.
Poland’s Deputy Defence Minister Paweł Zalewski said that the country is in talks with the Pentagon regarding an increase in US capabilities in Poland. When asked about the possible deployment of troops leaving Germany, he replied that it was necessary to wait for the Pentagon’s decision.
