Russia has fined Telegram $432 million for refusing to remove content
This was reported by the Russian propaganda news agency Interfax.
The publication writes that penalties were imposed on the messaging service for failing to remove prohibited content within the Russian Federation.
The Russian authorities have repeatedly levelled complaints against Telegram, which is among the country’s most widely used services, accusing it of condoning destructive activities. The platform is criticised for providing a platform for the dissemination of illegal material and radical propaganda.
Telegram denies these allegations and, in turn, accuses Russia of attempting to restrict the service’s operations.
According to company representatives, this is being done to force users to switch to the state-run messaging app MAX.
