Russia has threatened Armenia with the loss of cheap gas prices due to its growing ties with the EU
This is according to Reuters.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Armenia currently receives Russian gas at a “very attractive” price, but such conditions do not apply to countries that are members of other integration blocs.
“The pricing structure there is completely different. It is based on market principles,” Peskov said.
Armenia is a member of the Eurasian Economic Union led by Russia and is heavily dependent on Russian energy supplies.
At the same time, in recent years Yerevan has been seeking to cooperate more actively with the EU. In particular, last year the country passed a law launching the process of accession to the European Union.
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated that Yerevan has no plans to sever economic or political ties with Moscow.
It should be recalled that earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan declined to travel to Russia for the 9 May parade, citing the country’s election campaign as the reason.
