Salaries for teachers and social workers: the government has allocated 6.6 billion hryvnias
The Cabinet of Ministers has allocated 6.6 billion hryvnias across all 24 regions of Ukraine
The Cabinet of Ministers has allocated 6.6 billion hryvnias across all 24 regions of Ukraine to fund pay rises for staff in the education and social sectors. The amount allocated to each region will depend on its needs and the capacity of its local budget.

This was announced by the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Yulia Svyrydenko.

The funds will be allocated to 24 regional budgets. The amount for each region was calculated separately.

The government took into account how much money each region needs to pay the increased salaries, and whether the local budget can cover these costs on its own.

This means that regions with lower own revenues will receive a larger share of state support.

Who will receive the most support

For communities and regions where hostilities are ongoing or there is a risk of them resuming, the state will cover 80 per cent of the costs required to increase salaries.

For local budgets with insufficient financial capacity, compensation will range from 50% to 80%.

This means that part of the pay rise will be funded by the state budget, whilst the remainder must be covered by local budgets.

What this means for teachers and social workers

The government’s decision is intended to help regions pay the increased salaries to teachers, social care workers and other professionals in these sectors.

For individuals, this means that the pay rises will not have to be borne entirely by local budgets, particularly in communities with lower revenues or those operating near the conflict zone.

Teachers’ salaries in Ukraine do not depend solely on their basic salary. They are also influenced by their teaching category, length of service, teaching load and allowances.

In state schools, salaries are determined according to the Unified Pay Scale. Allowances for length of service, the prestige of the role and working in adverse conditions may be added to the salary.
