The psychological thriller "The Housemaid" had one of the strongest openings of the season in Ukraine over three weekends, despite difficult screening conditions due to shelling and infrastructure problems.

According to the distributor, Ukrainian viewers brought in 59,314,089 UAH for the film, and the total audience exceeded 300,000. Interestingly, Ukraine and the United Kingdom were the only countries where the film topped the box office.

The world premiere of "The Housemaid" took place on 19 December 2025, and the film was released in Ukrainian cinemas on 1 January 2026. The film has already grossed $250 million worldwide on a budget of $35 million, surpassing other Lionsgate releases this year — Ballerina and Now You See Me 3, according to Suspilne Kultura.

Adastra Cinema director Denis Sofronov called the film's success in Ukraine unprecedented, emphasising that it continues to be actively distributed and that cinemas are filling up even amid risks and disruptions.

The plot of "The Housemaid" tells the story of Millie (Sidney Swain), a maid with a difficult past who ends up at the Winchester family estate. The outward glamour quickly gives way to tension: the secrets of the owners turn her work into a psychological ordeal.

Lionsgate has also confirmed the development of a sequel to The Handmaid's Tale: Sidney Sweeney, Michele Morrone, director Paul Feig and screenwriter Rebecca Sonnershine will return; Amanda Seyfried is considering a cameo.
