US President Donald Trump has no intention of deploying ground troops in Iran, Republican Senator Tom Cotton has said.

US President Donald Trump is not considering a large-scale ground operation in Iran. This was stated by Republican Senator Tom Cotton in an interview with CBS News.

Responding to a question about the possible involvement of American troops in ground operations, Cotton emphasised that there are no such plans.

"The president has no intention of deploying any large-scale ground forces in Iran," he said.

According to the senator, the current US strategy is aimed not only at curbing Tehran's nuclear programme, but above all at destroying Iran's significant missile arsenal.

Cotton noted that a prolonged air and sea campaign should be expected. At the same time, he acknowledged that American military casualties are possible during such operations.

The senator also said that Iran has more missiles than the US and Israel combined, as well as significant production capacity and launchers, so destroying them will take time.
