Sweden is preparing to transfer several JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine. The two sides may also begin negotiations on the sale of additional Gripen E aircraft.

Sweden is preparing to transfer several JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine. This has been reported by Aftonbladet, citing its own sources.

According to the publication, the Swedish government plans to announce the transfer of Jas 39 C/D aircraft to Ukraine.

In addition, the parties are set to begin negotiations regarding the possible sale of additional Gripen E fighter jets to Ukraine.

It is expected that Ukraine will pay for these aircraft using a European Union loan.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson previously announced that he would hold a press conference. Today, he will visit the Upplands flygflottilj air wing in Uppsala. During the event, news is expected to be announced regarding international cooperation in the field of aviation.

Last year, Sweden and Ukraine signed a memorandum of understanding, which may relate to a deal for 100–150 Gripen aircraft.

This year, Hungary lifted its veto on the start of European Union loan payments to Ukraine totalling 90 billion euros.
