After two explosions in the city centre, law enforcement officers quickly identified and detained the suspected perpetrator.

Law enforcement officers detained a woman suspected of committing a terrorist attack in the centre of Lviv. She was found in the controlled border area of the city of Staryi Sambir. This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine.

The incident occurred at around 00:30 in the central part of Lviv. The 102 emergency hotline received a report of a possible intrusion by unknown persons into a shop on Danylyshyna Street. After the first patrol police crew arrived, an explosion occurred. When a second group of law enforcement officers arrived at the scene, another explosion occurred.

According to preliminary data, homemade explosive devices planted in rubbish bins were detonated. A 23-year-old policewoman was killed in the explosions. Another 25 people were injured to varying degrees, 11 of whom were hospitalised. Six law enforcement officers are in serious condition.

Operatives, investigators, criminal analysis specialists, forensic experts, bomb disposal experts, dog handlers and other relevant units were involved in the investigation. A large-scale special operation was launched.

As a result of joint actions by police and border guards, the 7th Carpathian Border Guard Detachment located and detained the suspect within a few hours.

According to the investigation, she is a 33-year-old resident of the Rivne region. It has been preliminarily established that, on the instructions of a so-called curator of the Russian Federation's special services, she made homemade explosive devices and placed them in specific locations.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the Security Service of Ukraine under Part 3 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — a terrorist act that resulted in the death of a person, as well as under Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives. The most severe penalty is life imprisonment.
