The exhumation of the remains of Poles has been authorised in the Lviv, Ternopil and Volyn regions
This has been reported by the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance.
The commission has granted permission for the exhumation of Polish Army soldiers who died in 1939. They are buried on the site of the former village of Holosko Velyke, where Varshavska Street in Lviv is now located.
Permission was also granted for the exhumation of the graves of residents of the former villages of Ostrivky and Volia Ostrovetska in Volhynia, who died in August 1943. The Commission also supported the testing of DNA samples from the remains of 60 Polish Army soldiers, reburied in 2015–2016 at the cemetery in the town of Mostyska in the Lviv region.
In addition, permission was granted for exhumation research into the graves of Soviet servicemen from the Second World War in the village of Oliiv in the Ternopil region.
“These decisions are of great significance for Polish-Ukrainian relations and represent a continuation of the dialogue regarding the granting of reciprocal permits for the investigation of graves on the territory of Ukraine and Poland,” noted Oleksandr Alferov, head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance.
As a reminder, it was previously reported that Poland is demanding the revocation of Zelenskyy’s decision regarding the Heroes of the UPA.
