Even more long-range artillery for the Defence Forces
The Ministry of Defence is launching a new large-scale procurement programme for long-range 155-mm artillery rounds for the Defence Forces. The tender will be conducted by the Defence Procurement Agency (DOTA) in a closed environment for security reasons.

This was announced by Gleb Fedorov, Director of the Procurement Policy Department at the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.

The procurement concerns 155-mm extended-range artillery rounds. Such ammunition remains one of the frontline’s key requirements, as it enables Ukrainian artillery to engage targets at greater ranges.

Manufacturers and suppliers whose products meet the Ministry of Defence’s requirements may participate in the procurement process.

The procedure will not be public but will take place behind closed doors. The Ministry explains this on security grounds, as the procurement concerns the supply of ammunition to the Defence Forces.

The Ministry of Defence describes the new tender as part of the defence procurement reform. The aim is to gradually transition such procurements, where possible, to competitive procedures.

This approach is intended to establish clear rules for suppliers, reduce the risk of corruption and ensure more efficient use of budget funds.

According to Fedorov, the first major procurement of long-range 155-mm artillery rounds via a competitive tender has already yielded results. The Defence Procurement Agency was able to save over 16 per cent of the expected cost.

Thanks to these savings, tens of thousands more artillery rounds were procured for the Defence Forces.

The Ministry of Defence plans to continue transitioning all categories of defence procurement to competitive tendering procedures, where security conditions and the nature of the goods permit.

According to the Ministry’s plan, this should help procure more of the necessary armaments for the same budget and meet the front line’s needs more quickly.

Details for potential tender participants are published on the website of the Defence Procurement Agency (DOTA).
