The Pope has called on world leaders not to use war to further their own interests
This is according to Bloomberg.
According to him, some leaders may view armed conflicts “as an effective way of diverting attention from domestic problems and a cynical tool for overcoming difficulties”.
In his letter, he also urged people not to believe those who claim that war is inevitable, but instead to work for peace.
Although the right to ‘legitimate’ defence must be preserved, he said, the very concept of a ‘just war’ must be consigned to the past. World leaders, in the Pope’s view, must give priority to dialogue, diplomacy and forgiveness.
“Any attempt or plan to destroy or subjugate an entire people is profoundly immoral and therefore unacceptable,” declared the Pope.
It is worth recalling that the Pope previously stated that the world is being “devastated by a handful of tyrants” who spend billions on wars.
