Ukrainian teenagers were attacked in Poland for speaking Ukrainian

The attack took place on a city bus
The incident took place on city bus route No. 3. According to a 15-year-old Ukrainian boy, a stranger began behaving aggressively after hearing them speaking Ukrainian.
The man told the teenagers that in Poland, one must speak Polish. He then struck the boy with the flat of his hand, and when the driver opened the doors at a bus stop, he forcibly pushed both teenagers out of the bus. The victim said that the attacker was swearing constantly and behaving extremely aggressively.
The boy’s mother says her son no longer feels safe
Following the incident, the teenager’s mother, Nataliia Melnyk, admitted that her son is afraid to speak Ukrainian in public. She said that since then, she has been constantly worried about his safety. She explained that she gets nervous every time her son does not answer his phone straight away.
The police and the public prosecutor’s office are identifying the attacker
The investigation is being handled by the Płock District Public Prosecutor’s Office. Prosecutors have already interviewed the minor’s legal representative and witnesses to the incident. A Polish woman who was on the bus during the incident has also given evidence. Law enforcement officers are currently working to identify the attacker. Once the necessary investigative procedures have been completed, a decision will be made on whether to charge him.
Survey reveals shift in Poles’ attitudes towards Ukrainian refugees
Against the backdrop of this incident, the Polish media have drawn attention to the results of the latest survey by the Centre for Public Opinion Research (CBOS). According to the survey, 54 per cent of respondents believe that Poland is providing too much assistance to Ukrainian refugees. Forty per cent of those surveyed hold the opposite view, whilst a further 3 per cent consider the support to be insufficient. According to sociologists, this is the first time in the history of such surveys that the number of people opposed to providing aid to Ukrainian refugees has exceeded the number of those in favour.
