US President Donald Trump has responded to a public appeal by Harry, the Duke of Sussex, for Washington to take decisive action regarding the war in Ukraine.

Trump made these remarks whilst speaking to journalists, according to the Kyiv Independent.

“Prince Harry — how is he doing? Please pass on my regards to him. I know one thing: Prince Harry does not speak on behalf of the UK, that’s for sure. I think I speak on behalf of the UK more than Prince Harry does, but I value his advice,” Trump said.

The day before, during a speech at the Kyiv Security Forum, Harry called for stronger US leadership.

“The United States plays an exceptional role in this story. Not only because of its power, but also because, when Ukraine gave up its nuclear weapons, America became part of the guarantee that Ukraine’s sovereignty and borders would be respected,” he said.

Harry called on the US to act more decisively, describing it as “a moment for American leadership”. He urged Washington to demonstrate that it can “fulfil its obligations under international treaties not out of charity, but because of its own enduring role in global security and strategic stability”.

As a reminder, on 23 April, Britain’s Prince Harry arrived in the Ukrainian capital without prior announcement.
