Trump announced sanctions against countries doing business with Russia
The announced sanctions will apply to any countries that trade with Russia. The relevant bill is currently being worked on by the U.S. Republican Party, reports Reuters.
"As you know, I proposed that any country doing business with Russia should face very strict sanctions," - said Trump.
The U.S. president did not disclose details about the bill but hinted at which country might be among the first to be sanctioned.
"Iran could be added to this list," - noted Donald Trump.
In April, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, Democrat Richard Blumenthal, and over 80 other legislators submitted a bill to Congress proposing a 500% tariff on imports into the U.S. of goods from countries that buy Russian oil, petroleum products, natural gas, or uranium.
The document aims to weaken Russia's economy and persuade Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine.
However, on October 21, the upper chamber of the U.S. Congress postponed the consideration of this bill. The reason was the scheduled summit of Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Budapest.
