A 37-year-old Brazilian jiu-jitsu coach is to stand trial in Kyiv, accused of sexually abusing his underage female pupils. The man denies the charges.

This was announced by Ukraine’s Prosecutor General, Ruslan Kravchenko.

The coach was conducting one-to-one jiu-jitsu sessions for children. According to the investigation, his 11-year-old pupil was sexually assaulted during these sessions.

“While alone with the girl, the coach committed sexual abuse and subsequently repeated it. He deliberately exploited the child’s trust and vulnerability. Due to her age, the girl simply did not understand what was happening, and the coach assured her that there was nothing wrong with his actions, but persuaded her to keep what had happened a secret,” the Prosecutor General noted.

The man was exposed thanks to a hidden camera installed in the hall. Following the publicity surrounding the case, another victim came forward — a former pupil from Zaporizhzhia. According to the investigation, the athlete committed similar offences against her back in 2017, when the girl was also 11 years old.

The accused’s actions have been classified as committing lewd acts against a minor, as well as sexual abuse of a child under the age of fourteen, committed repeatedly — Part 2 of Article 156 and Part 6 of Article 152 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The suspect does not admit his guilt. The man is currently in custody. The court proceedings are ongoing.
