So far, only one person in the US has received a 'Trump Gold Card'
Bloomberg reports this.
Lutnik did not disclose the identity of the applicant whose application had been approved. During a hearing before a US House of Representatives committee, he said that visa applications from ‘hundreds’ of other foreigners were under consideration.
According to him, applicants must undergo “extensive vetting” and pay a processing fee of $15,000.
Bloomberg notes that the Trump administration began accepting visa applications in December last year.
More on the ‘Golden Card’
The White House chief has promoted the ‘Golden Card’ visa programme as a critically important way of attracting talented people to the US. Visa recipients pay $1 million to obtain a US residence permit.
Trump previously stated that ‘golden visas’ would replace the EB-5 immigrant investor programme, which allows foreign investors who invest large sums of money to create or preserve jobs to become permanent residents of the US.
A website has been launched in the US for registering for a ‘golden card’ — it is called trumpcard.gov.
