A limited edition series of passports featuring Donald Trump is to be issued in the US to mark the 250th anniversary of independence
The US State Department has announced the release of a limited edition series of US passports to mark the 250th anniversary of the country’s independence. The new design features an image of President Donald Trump on the inside cover, as well as other illustrations relating to the era of the nation’s founding, according to Politico.
According to preliminary samples, Trump’s portrait is set against a background of the Declaration of Independence, alongside his signature in gold. One of the pages features an image of the nation’s founding fathers signing the document.
State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott stated that the special passports are being issued to mark the 250th anniversary of US independence in July. According to him, these documents will have the same security features as standard US passports.
The release is scheduled for July as part of the Donald Trump administration’s America250 initiative. This programme also includes other events, such as a UFC fight at the White House and a Grand Prix street race in Washington.
The new passport will be available at the Washington Passport Agency for US citizens applying for a new document and will be issued within the existing print run. There will be no additional fee for obtaining it.
Since taking office, Donald Trump has already used his own name and image in a number of government initiatives. In particular, it was announced that the Kennedy Centre would be renamed the Trump-Kennedy Centre and the Institute of Peace the Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace.
In February, a banner bearing his image appeared on the Department of Justice building. Several government programmes also bear his name, including Trump Accounts, the Trump Gold Card and TrumpRx.
The Treasury Department has announced that Donald Trump’s signature will appear on new US banknotes. He will become the first sitting president to have his signature featured on paper currency.
