In Baghdad, protesters attempted to break through to the Green Zone near the US embassy.
In Baghdad, hundreds of protesters tried to break through to the fortified "Green Zone," where the US embassy is located. This was reported by The Times of Israel.
According to the agency, the protests erupted after reports of the death of Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
As a security forces representative told AFP, attempts to break through have been successfully contained for now, but protesters continue to try to enter the closed government zone.
According to the agency's journalist, some of the protesters held flags of pro-Iranian armed groups and threw stones at law enforcement officers. In response, security forces used tear gas.
Local media also report protests in other provinces in southern Iraq.
