An oil depot caught fire in Penza after a drone attack
On Friday morning, 23 January, a fire broke out at an oil depot in the Russian city of Penza after a drone attack. This was reported by the Russian BBC service, citing a statement by Oleg Melnikov, governor of the Penza region.
According to him, the fire broke out at around 4 a.m. local time. The official said that there were no casualties or injuries as a result of the incident, and emergency services immediately began working at the scene.
Later, the head of the region clarified that air defence forces allegedly destroyed four drones. According to him, the wreckage of one of the drones fell on the territory of the oil depot, which caused the fire.
At the same time, the Russian Ministry of Defence stated that 12 drones were shot down over five regions of the country on the night of 23 January. In particular, seven drones were allegedly destroyed over the Belgorod region, two over the Voronezh region, and one each over the Bryansk, Penza and Astrakhan regions.
The Ukrainian side has not yet commented on the information about the attack on Penza.
