Protests in Albania
In the Albanian capital, protesters threw Molotov cocktails at a government building after corruption charges were brought against Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluk. The prosecutor's office is asking the parliament to lift her immunity for arrest.

Massive protests have taken place in the Albanian capital Tirana after prosecutors filed corruption charges against Deputy Prime Minister and Infrastructure Minister Belinda Balluk. Demonstrators demanded the resignation of the government of Prime Minister Edi Rama and attacked the government building where his office is located, throwing Molotov cocktails. It is reported by The Public with reference to Reuters

According to investigators, Balluca is suspected of misusing public funds in favour of certain private companies working on large infrastructure projects. She denies any wrongdoing, calls the accusations slanderous, and expresses her willingness to cooperate with the authorities.

The Special Prosecutor's Office, which investigates corruption and organised crime, has asked parliament to lift Balluku's parliamentary immunity to pave the way for her arrest. Although the ruling party controls parliament, the timing of the vote remains uncertain.

Amid the protests, protesters spoke of the embezzlement of public funds and lack of accountability of officials. Police remained near government buildings, but there were no violent clashes with protesters.
