Turkish police have conducted large-scale anti-terrorist raids in 21 provinces after fighting ISIS militants in Yalova. The operations were carried out in response to the threat of terrorist attacks on the eve of the holidays.

Turkey's security forces have detained 357 people as part of a nationwide operation against cells of the Islamic State group. This was announced by Interior Minister Ali Erlikaya, DW reports.

According to him, simultaneous raids took place in 21 provinces with the participation of anti-terrorist units of the police, special services and prosecutors. The operation followed an eight-hour clash in the northwestern city of Yalova. Three police officers and six suspected militants were killed in the confrontation

As part of the operation, security forces searched more than 100 addresses. Due to the fighting, schools in Yalova were temporarily closed, and gas and electricity supplies were cut off for security reasons. According to the authorities, more than 100 suspects were detained last week, who are linked to the preparation of attacks during the Christmas and New Year holidays

Turkey has stepped up its fight against ISIS in 2025. The authorities recall that the group was behind a series of bloody terrorist attacks in 2015 and 2017, including attacks on an airport and a nightclub in Istanbul. Although no large-scale attacks have been recorded in recent years, law enforcement regularly conducts preventive operations against sleeper cells
