Vienna will honour the memory of Ivan Puluj on his birthday
On 2 February, a ceremony will be held in the Austrian capital to honour the memory of Ivan Pul'uj, a renowned Ukrainian scientist, physicist and patriot. The event is timed to coincide with the anniversary of his birth and will include the laying of flowers at his memorial plaque in Vienna.
The event was announced by the Ukrainian Embassy in Austria on its official Facebook page. The diplomatic mission emphasised that Ivan Pul'uj was not only an outstanding physicist and electrical engineer, but also an active public figure and translator of the Bible into Ukrainian. In its statement, the embassy called on all interested parties to join the ceremony and jointly honour the memory of this distinguished Ukrainian.
A memorial bas-relief plaque was unveiled in Vienna on 30 April 1998 on the house where Panteleimon Kulish and Ivan Pulyui lived in 1870. It was there that they worked together on the first translation of the Bible into Ukrainian.
The commemorative event will begin at 10:00 a.m. at Skodagasse 9, 1080 Vienna.
