Strike from 1,700 km away: four aircraft hit at the Russian ‘Shagol’ airfield
This is reported by ‘MADYAR’.
Consequences of the ‘SBS Birds’ visit
Following the operation carried out on 25 April 2026, the destruction of four Russian aircraft has been confirmed. Satellite reconnaissance by the General Staff confirmed that at least three deep-strike weapons had hit their targets. The following aircraft sustained damage of varying degrees:
-
Su-57 (fifth-generation multi-role fighter) — 2 units;
-
Su-34 (fighter-bomber) — 1 unit;
-
Su of an unidentified variant — 1 unit.
Satellite imagery also shows the destruction of a ground support vehicle that was positioned directly between the Su-57s. Following the attack, the occupiers attempted to conceal the damaged equipment in other parts of the airfield.
Why is this important?
The destruction of aircraft of this type is of strategic importance for Ukraine’s defence:
-
The Su-34 is the primary platform for dropping guided bombs and launching missile strikes against civilian infrastructure. The cost of a single aircraft is $35–50 million.
-
The Su-57 is the Russian Federation’s most advanced and expensive fighter jet, featuring stealth technology, with a cost of $100–120 million per unit.
The destruction and damage of this equipment significantly reduces the strike capability of the Russian air force and eases the burden on the Ukrainian air defence system.
