Ukrainian footballer Vyacheslav Sharpar has died at the age of 39. According to his family, the tragedy occurred on 2 June – his birthday.

Ukrainian footballer Vyacheslav Sharpar has died at the age of 39. According to his family, the tragedy occurred on 2 June – his 39th birthday.

The footballer’s body is currently in Greece. His family is arranging for his return to Ukraine for a burial in accordance with Christian traditions. 

What is known about Vyacheslav Sharpar’s death

Vyacheslav Sharpar’s death was reported by his relatives. According to sports media, the footballer passed away in Greece.

The family has launched a fundraising campaign to cover the costs of transporting the body to Ukraine and the funeral. In their statement, his relatives asked for prayers and support.

The circumstances of his death have not been disclosed in detail in the family’s and media reports.

Where did Vyacheslav Sharpar play?

Vyacheslav Sharpar was a midfielder and had a long career in Ukrainian football.

He played for Volyn in Lutsk, Metalist in Kharkiv, Vorskla in Poltava, Arsenal in Kyiv, Hoverla in Uzhhorod, Metalurh in Donetsk, as well as for clubs abroad.

Outside Ukraine, Sharpar played in Moldova, Kazakhstan and Latvia. In particular, he played for Sheriff in Tiraspol, Atyrau in Kazakhstan and Riga in Latvia.

His football achievements

As part of “Metalist”, Vyacheslav Sharpar won the bronze medal in the Ukrainian Premier League in the 2010/11 season.

He won another bronze medal in the Ukrainian Premier League with Poltava’s Vorskla in the 2017/18 season.

Sharpar has also won trophies abroad. As part of Sheriff, he won the Moldovan Super Cup, and with Riga he won the Latvian championship. 

International appearances

Vyacheslav Sharpar was called up to the Ukraine U-21 national team.

According to public sports profiles, he made his debut for the youth team in 2007 at the Valeriy Lobanovskyi Memorial Tournament.

Vyacheslav Sharpar was born on 2 June 1987 in Zelenodolsk, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. He played as a central midfielder. He was 1.90 m tall and right-footed.

During his career, he played in Ukraine and abroad, winning a bronze medal in the Ukrainian championship, the Latvian championship and the Moldovan Super Cup.
