The aftermath of the Russian attack on Kyiv, 15 June 2026
Residents of Kyiv whose homes have been severely damaged or destroyed as a result of the Russian attack are eligible for a one-off grant of 40,000 hryvnias to help with rental costs.

This was stated by Kateryna Pop, spokesperson for the Kyiv City Military Administration.

Residents of flats that have been completely gutted by fire and where the structure of the building itself has been damaged may initially apply to be temporarily rehoused at locations designated within the district, — such as halls of residence or social housing — until they begin to receive financial assistance following their application.

Relocation to free accommodation may take “a few days or a week at most”. A one-off grant of 40,000 hryvnias is available to help with the cost of renting temporary accommodation.

If the housing takes a long time to be restored, Kyiv residents will be able to receive compensation equivalent to the average rent in Kyiv (20,000 hryvnias), but for no longer than one year.

Following the massive Russian attack on the night of 15 June, relief centres for those affected were set up across Kyiv. These centres are staffed by medical professionals, psychologists, the State Emergency Service, social workers from the district administration, volunteers and others. At these centres, people can obtain assistance with OSB boards or window film, as well as advice on which documents to gather in order to receive financial aid.

According to the official, fires, destruction and damage to residential buildings and civilian infrastructure occurred overnight in all districts of Kyiv without exception. Five deaths and around thirty casualties have been reported so far, including children. The administration expects the number of casualties to rise further.

The attack on Kyiv on 15 June: what is known

On the night of 15 June, Russian forces launched 681 air strikes against Ukraine — 70 missiles and 611 UAVs of various types. The main target of the attack was Kyiv, whilst Dnipro and Kharkiv were also struck by missiles.

As of 08:00, 632 targets had been shot down or neutralised — 50 missiles and 582 drones of various types. However, 20 ballistic missiles and 27 attack UAVs were recorded as having struck 42 locations, and the debris of downed UAVs was found at 12 locations.

In particular, in Kyiv, Russian forces targeted the Assumption Cathedral — the main cathedral of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra — and the nearby Art Arsenal building. In addition, the occupiers attacked the Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Film Studio, destroying Ukraine’s largest and oldest costume collection.
