On Ukraine’s south-western border, particularly in the direction of Transnistria, defensive capabilities are being strengthened due to potential risks and the presence of Russian military forces in the region.

This was reported by the "West" Operational Command.

They stated that engineering fortifications are being reinforced in the Transnistrian sector, and bypass roads are being developed to improve the manoeuvrability and logistics of the troops.

The Operational Command noted that the commander of the "West" military group, Brigadier General Volodymyr Shvedyuk, during a working visit to the border area with unrecognised Transnistria, spoke with commanders at various levels, checked the readiness of units, their supplies and the condition of the defensive lines – engineering fortifications and bypass roads.

The Operational Command states that it plans to establish a layered defence system in this area, which will enable a rapid response to potential provocations or threats from the Transnistrian region.

“One of the key issues remains the substantial strengthening of the defensive capabilities of our south-western border. Creating the necessary conditions to improve the manoeuvrability and logistical support of the troops. This will enable the construction of a layered defence system, allowing for a rapid response to any provocations or overt displays of aggressive actions from the self-proclaimed, unrecognised satellite of the Russian Federation,” the Western Operational Command stated.

They added that military personnel in this sector are actively engaging with local communities and farms. They are ensuring that farmers can safely carry out seasonal field work, taking into account the construction of engineering barriers, minefields and defensive lines by our troops along the border.

Defence Forces units are also supporting the process of improving the system for training the local population in national resistance in the area.

The commander of the ‘West’ military group also met with representatives of the region’s medical institutions to check the readiness of the region’s medical infrastructure to assist the military if necessary.

“Strengthening the defensive lines along the border is, first and foremost, a comprehensive response to potential risks and the ability to react swiftly to any threat,” noted the “West” Operational Command.
