In India, a plane with 242 people on board crashed into a dormitory
Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner with 242 people on board was en route to London Gatwick Airport but crashed into a medical college dormitory less than a minute after takeoff. It is known that one passenger, seated in 11A near the emergency exit, survived.
The police reported that over 240 people died. The exact number of victims is being determined, including those in the building into which the plane crashed.
Among the passengers were 169 Indian citizens, 53 British citizens, seven from Portugal, and one from Canada. Experts from the USA and the UK have been dispatched to India to assist in the investigation. This is the first disaster involving a Dreamliner aircraft, which began commercial flights in 2011. The aircraft involved in the crash made its first flight in 2013.
The only survivor of Flight 171, Vishwas Kumar Ramesh, told journalists that he was returning home to England after visiting relatives in India with his brother Ajay.

"Thirty seconds after takeoff, a loud noise sounded, and then the plane crashed. Everything happened so quickly," said the man to Hindustan Times. He is in the hospital because he sustained injuries to his chest, eyes, and legs during the fall.
