Nuclear facility damaged in Isfahan province after US and Israeli strike
An irradiation sterilisation facility in central Iran was hit during the US and Israeli attack. Iranian officials reported significant damage on Sunday.
The Iranian ISNA News Agency reported that the strike hit a gamma sterilisation centre in Isfahan province. According to the National Centre for Nuclear Security Systems, the facility was attacked by US and Israeli air and missile strikes.
The facility suffered serious damage as a result of the attack. At the same time, the report notes that no radiation contamination has been detected in the surrounding areas at this time.
ISNA also reported that a nuclear facility in Isfahan province was severely damaged during a missile strike on 7 March. The agency noted that there have been no reports of radioactive contamination so far.
According to Israel and the United States, a significant portion of Iran's nuclear fuel is stored in underground tunnels in Isfahan, with the rest of the stockpile located in fortified facilities in Fordow and Natanz. At the beginning of the current escalation, the US and Israel struck the entrances to the underground tunnels in Isfahan and Fordow to block access to them and prevent the movement of stocks.
Tensions in the region continue after Israel and the US carried out a joint attack on Iran on 28 February. According to Iranian authorities, more than 1,200 people were killed in the strikes, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, and more than 10,000 were injured.
In response, Tehran launched missile and drone attacks on targets in Israel, Iraq, Jordan and the Persian Gulf countries, where US military facilities are located.
