The leader of a criminal organisation that forged and sold Ukrainian and European-style documents featuring holographic security features has been extradited from Germany to Ukraine.

This was reported by the National Police.

In May 2024, law enforcement officers dismantled an inter-regional criminal gang that was producing and selling counterfeit Ukrainian and European-style documents featuring holographic security features.

Every day, several dozen such forgeries were churned out in clandestine printing shops, for which the dealers charged between $300 and $1,500.

Nine members of the criminal organisation were arrested during the special operation.

The case against the suspects is currently being heard in court.

The organiser of the criminal enterprise — a resident of the Kyiv region — had fled Ukraine by that time.

He was charged in absentia and placed on an international wanted list.

In the spring of 2025, the National Police received information from foreign colleagues regarding the fugitive’s arrest in Germany.

The 35-year-old criminal has now been handed over to Ukrainian investigators.

He faces up to 12 years’ imprisonment for establishing and participating in a criminal organisation, and for the manufacture and sale of counterfeit holographic security features and documents as part of a criminal group.
