A grain carrier carrying stolen Ukrainian grain has left an Israeli port and entered international waters
The Israeli grain import company ‘Tzentsiper’ has announced that it will not accept a shipment of grain that may originate from the occupied territories of Ukraine. The vessel ‘Panormitis’, carrying the grain, has left the port of Haifa and is now in international waters.
This was reported by the Israeli publication The Marker.
“We have won; the grain carrier is heading into neutral waters from the port. We will conclude the criminal case and the sanctions proceedings,” said Yevhen Korniychuk, Ukraine’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Israel, in a comment to the Interfax-Ukraine news agency.
On Thursday morning, the company “Zentsiper” informed SGM, the supplier of the wheat cargo suspected of having been stolen from Russian-occupied eastern Ukraine, that it would refuse to accept the cargo from the Russian vessel. The company stated that “the Russian supplier of the wheat cargo will be forced to find another place to unload”. “This is the first instance in which a shipment of grain suspected of being stolen has been rejected and not unloaded in Israel,” the publication writes.
The report refers to the vessel “Panormitis”, which was anchored off the coast of Haifa, carrying around 20,000 tonnes of barley and around 6,000 tonnes of other grain with a total value of approximately $7 million, which, according to the Ukrainian government, originated from Ukrainian territories occupied by the Russian Federation. The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs had previously reported on an appeal regarding the vessel “Abinsk”, which was anchored in Haifa harbour awaiting unloading.
As a reminder, the day before, the Israeli grain importer ‘Tzentsiper’ refused to unload the vessel ‘Panormitis’ carrying stolen Ukrainian grain.
