A video has emerged of the shooting at Svitlovodsk City Council
Svitlovodsk City Council has reported that on 12 May, at the City Council premises, First Deputy Mayor Serhiy Savych brandished a weapon and opened fire inside the Executive Committee building.
At the time, staff members and members of the public were present in the building.
The city council stated that the incident endangered people’s lives and health. One person is known to have been injured. According to the city council, the person sustained injuries from a non-lethal weapon. The victim is receiving medical treatment.
The statement also notes that earlier in the day, Serhiy Savych had behaved aggressively, making threats and using foul language directed at Maksym Bakumenko, the secretary of the Svitlovodsk City Council.
The city council stated that some of these actions were recorded during live broadcasts on Savich’s own social media accounts.
The police and an ambulance were called to the scene. Law enforcement officers are carrying out the arrest and urgent investigative procedures.
The Svitlovodsk City Council emphasised that the use of weapons in an administrative building, threats and endangering people are unacceptable. They also stated that they are awaiting an official legal assessment from law enforcement agencies and a subsequent response in accordance with Ukrainian law.
