There are 1,178,249 lost or stolen firearms currently being sought in Ukraine. These figures are taken from the official statistics of the Ministry of the Interior.

The figure sounds like something out of a thriller, but these are official figures from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Of these, 780,000 items have been lost or stolen since the start of the full-scale war – that’s 66% of the entire register. And the trend doesn’t seem to be improving: since the start of 2026 alone, a further 149,000 cases have been added to the list of missing items. That’s almost as many as for the whole of 2025.

Automatic weapons, hunting rifles and carbines are the most common to ‘disappear’. The ‘statistical favourite’ is the AK-74: one in four entries in the Register relates to this particular model.

The geographical distribution is also telling: almost half of the losses are in Mykolaiv, Kyiv and Donetsk regions, where life is certainly not about “peaceful weekends”.

And one more bureaucratic detail: some of the entries in the register relate to weapons that went missing back in 2022, but only “made it into the system” much later. In other words, the figures are both “up to date” and somewhat historical.
